Reiki- Metaphysical Healing

The principles of Reiki

Just for today I will live with the attitude of gratitude.
Just for today I will not worry.
Just for today I will not anger.
Just for today I will do my work honestly.
Just for today I will love and respect for every living thing.

Since we as mankind have existed we have had an inherent ability to heal using universal energy. The methods of using this energy vary. One method is Reiki, which I have found profoundly effective.

This science comes from ancient Tibet and is thousands of years old. It laid dormant for hundreds of years. Dr Mikao Usui, a University president, monk, and a spiritual scholar revived this form of hands on- healing in the mid- 1800’s. He wanted to find out how the Christ and the Buddha healed the sick. During his 10 year quest he studied the teachings of the Christ and the sacred texts of Japan, China, India and Tibet. At the end of his quest the complete system of hands- on healing came to him after a long meditation on the holy mountain of Kuriyama.

What is Reiki?

‘Rei’ means ‘spiritual intelligence’ and ‘Ki ‘means ‘universal life energy’. Your hands are channels of this energy. The word ‘hand’ was originally Greek and meant ‘point- of energy’. This energy is found in all living matters, and it is used for growth and healing. It works at all levels: emotional, physical, spiritual and mental. Reiki works even on the causal plane, removing the cause of the disease while it treats symptoms, bringing the person back to balanced health. It is both powerful and gentle form of healing in its effects.

A Reiki treatment activates the body’s natural ability to heal itself. All disease is caused by a lessening or a blockage of life energy. Reiki removes blocks and restores energy balance, which allows the body to heal. Reiki may be used for any physical and emotional healing. It may help person to release old, painful memories from the cells of the body. It may help clear unwanted habits, and it protects from negative energy. Reiki is may improve concentration, calm and give energy. Reiki is complementary to Eastern and Western Medicine.

Reiki can be given to everyone and to everything: humans, animals, plants... Children and animals are very receptive to Reiki. In other words, their healing is faster. Not always, but often adults may need up to 4 treatments, whereas children and animals may need only one treatment.
I had an adult client that had lost her voice totally. She came for a treatment (an appointment made via a text message). One hour later, her voice was back. Naturally I recommended her to get a check up done, anyway- she told that she is prone to laryngitis- with a doctor, in case she would need medication. She told me later that there was no need for antibiotics.

Who Can't Receive Reiki?

Although Reiki is a safe method of healing, there are cases when I wouldn't give a treatment. Early pregnancy, cancer patient on chemotherapy, a person being under influence of drugs or alcohol, for example, should not receive this type of healing. Since Reiki can cause detoxification symptoms, it wouldn't be wise to give a Reiki treatment in previously mentioned cases.

The treatment

A client sits or lies down, fully clothed. When channeling energy in to a client's being I move my hands on different parts of the body. Usually clients find it so relaxing that they fall asleep during a treatment! Sometimes clients feel tingling, heat or some other sensations while I channel the healing energy. Whether a client senses something or not doesn’t really matter. The healing is effective, nevertheless. A treatment lasts normally from 30 to 60minutes.

Distance Healing

Reiki- distance healing goes like this: a client asks to receive healing on the phone/ via email. We arrange the time which suits the client, the time when s/he can receive Reiki- healing undisturbed. A session can be as brief as 15min, or it can take 60min, depending on how much the client needs this wonderful healing energy.

The sensations the client may feel are similar to what one may feel during a hands- on treatment. Whether one receives hands- on or distance Reiki- healing, the amount of absorbed healing energy is always right to the client in question. There is no fear of 'over dosing' with healing energy.

After The Treatment

I always recommend to spend some time just relaxing and letting the healing energy to work in the client's system after the session is over.

Drinking plenty of pure water for the following couple of days will flush out possible toxins that are released during the treatment. Some clients get clearing symptoms, such as mild headaches, temperature changes, sweats, some emotional discharging may occur, or feeling spacey. These are quite normal, and they won't last long. Most clients feel great, in spite of minor clearing symptoms.

Distance Attunements

Yes, it is possible to receive a distance attunement to Reiki. If you feel you would like to open the healing energy flow within, don't hesitate emailing me. I give these attunements for free. However, if you wish to receive a certificate, I will email it to you for a small donation. With Blessings, Sari.

Reflexology- One Aspect Of Harmonic Health

Reflexology therapy is based on the division of the body to ten longitudinal zones. The zones run in direct lines, ascending from the toes through the top of the head. Unlike the meridians , fine lines running in the body, the zones are segments through the body. A sliced bread gives a good idea about how the zones ‘cut’ the body.

Dr William Fitzgerald (1872- 1942) is the ‘father’ of the zone division of the body. As he worked as a physician at the Boston City Hospital he was drawn to pressure therapy. He noticed that when he pressed certain parts of the body, an analgesic effect was produced, as well as pain relief from e.g. headaches and earaches. He started working systematically on his zone therapy. He had realized that when there is an imbalance, pain or disease in an organ lying in a particular zone, it can be treated by applying pressure somewhere else within the same zone. He concluded that a human body can be divided into 5 longitudinal zones on the right, and another 5 on the left side of the body.

An imaginary line from the coccyx, through the spine, and up through the head separates the zones in the right and left side of the body. By applying pressure to a zone is considered to clear any imbalances or energy blocks within a zone. Zones overlap with the meridians; some authorities say that by treating organs along in the zones the meridians are treated, as well.

The division of the zones expands from the web of the toes to the web of the fingers. The zones run along:
zone 1, from the big toe up the inside of the leg through the body to the top of the head, then down the inside of the arm to the thumb,
zone 2, starting from the second toe, running up through the leg, the body, and the head, down to the second finger,
zone 3, from the third toe, up the middle line of the leg, through the body and head, then going down o the third finger,
zone 4, from the fourth toe up through the leg, the body, the head, and down the arm to the fourth finger,
zone 5, from the little toe, up the through the leg, the body and head, then down the arm to the fifth (little) finger.

An example of a pressure point on the zone: the pituitary gland is located in the brain, in the first zone. By applying pressure in the middle of the first phalanx of the big toe, the pituitary gland is affected. A reflect point for solar plexus is situated on the 1st and 2nd zone, right below the diaphragm- transverse line. When the solar plexus reflect point, along some other relevant points, is manipulated, it relieves conditions such as stress and anxiety.

Transverse Zones

Doctor Joseph Riley was eagerly using the zone therapy on his patients. A therapist called Eunice Ingham that was working in his office saw his procedures; she became intrigued by this technique that could alleviate physical, mental, emotional symptoms and disorders, and induce an analgesic effect in the body. She thought: if pressing hands affects the internal organs, then pressing the feet should have a similar effect. She started practicing this technique on people. Soon she noticed that certain points on the foot soles caused sensations in certain parts of the body. With her careful study she could map the whole human body on the soles of the feet. She brought Dr. Fitzgerald’s division of the body into longitudinal zones a step further; the transverse zones of the body were introduced by Eunice Ingham.

Zone 1, the base of the neck, is the area above the level of the shoulder girdle. This zone covers the phalanges, and it relates to the neck and the head. In the feet, zone 1 is at the joint of the phalanges and metatarsals. This area in the feet relates to the level of the shoulder girdle.
Zone 2, the waistline, covers the area from the shoulder girdle to the waist (at the level of the lower ribs). This area refers to the parts of the body found in the upper abdomen and the thorax. In the feet, this zone covers the metatarsals, whole length of them.
Zone 3, the base of pelvis, is the area between the waistline and the base of the pelvis. In the feet, the line runs across the talus and the lower tibia and equals to an imaginary line between the malleoli (the two ankle bones).
Although not listed and numbered as a transverse zone, the diaphragm zone runs between the zones 1 and 2 over the mid- ribs and the diaphragm. In the feet, this line is located right below the ball- the line across the foot below the head of the first metatarsal. The diaphragm line helps to determine easier the location of reflex areas; there are several reflex points situated between the diaphragm and the waist

Together with the longitudinal zones, the transverse zones help to locate reflect areas of certain organs of the body. For instance, the kidneys are located in the longitudinal zones 2 to 4, and right below the diaphragm line in the transverse zone 2. Bone structure wise; on the second and the third metatarsals.

Referral areas are situated along a same zone of the body. For example, in the zone 5: a sore spot in the upper and outer thigh can be treated by pressing the spot in the upper and outer arm. The right spot is found when pain in the in the thigh subsides. In this case, the spot in the upper and outer arm is a referral area.

How Is It Done?

Reflexology is done by applying rubbing, pressure or 'thumb-walking' on the reflex points and areas in the feet of the hands. You may feel slight tingling, dull pain, heat- or maybe you feel just pure relaxation spreading into your entire body! Relaxation is one aim of this therapy; by an estimation about 75% of disorders occur because of stress. Ability to relax is more valuable than anything to our well being and health!

Many times I have been asked if reflexology interferes with any other treatment. It is classified as complementary therapy. There are certain medical conditions, though, when a client needs to get a permission from, and their doctor. Such conditions are, for instance, diabetes, heart problems, and cancer. In some cases reflexology is contraindicated; for instance, early pregnancy, immediately after operation, intoxication, or when one has a pace- maker.

Reflexology goes well hand in hand with any other type of vibrational medicine, e.g. homeopathy, tissue salts, Reiki, flower remedies, etc. Note: if you are uncertain, consult your doctor. Don't be afraid to ask questions from your alternative therapist, either. A qualified therapist can answer all your questions, and knows her/ his responsibility.

I'll be happy to answer your further questions of reflexology, aromatherapy, nutrition, meditation, massage and counseling- which all are aspects of creating Harmonic Health. Your questions are not limited to these topics, though!
Blessings, Sari.
